Hiking Dog Food Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups lean ground chicken or turkey
  • 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1/2 cup chopped carrots
  • 1/4 cup chopped sweet potato
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth

Instructions
 

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the ground chicken or turkey and cook until browned and cooked through.
  • Add the chopped carrots, peas, and sweet potato to the skillet. Sauté for a few minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  • Add the cooked quinoa to the skillet and stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  • Continue to cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool completely.
  • Once cooled, portion the homemade hiking dog food into individual serving sizes suitable for your dog's needs.
  • Store the portions in airtight containers or freeze them for future hikes.

Notes

During your hiking trips, take the homemade dog food portions out of the refrigerator or freezer and pack them in a cooler or insulated bag.
Serve the food to your dog at mealtime, ensuring they have access to fresh water for hydration.
